Work as a member of the team providing a high standard of care to patients and their carers.

Deliver high quality holistic care to patients with the indirect supervision of a registered nurse.

Deliver efficient and effective care and communication between multidisciplinary team the patient, relatives and carers.

Main duties of the job

Participate in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients.  Act as the patient’s advocate ensuring that their best interests are met.

To carry out basic nursing care of the patient and  their daily activities and promote patient safety, comfort, privacy, dignity and confidentiality, reporting any change in condition to the nurse in charge.

Use initiative in planning daily and weekly routines.

Carry out the role without the need for constant supervision and directly recognising limitations and seeking supervision when necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Motivated Band 3 Support Worker required to join a proactive dynamic nursing team on the Dialysis Unit at City Hospital Campus.  As part of your role you may be asked to cover other satellite areas at Kingsmill and Ilkeston Hospitals during staff shortages.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good Basic level of secondary school education
  • Evidence of personal development in previous employment
  • Willingness to undertake training at NVQ level
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience is required
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in a health or social care setting

Communication & Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
  • Physically able to perform the full range of nursing duties
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Good telephone skills
  • Ability to pass on information accurately
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate computer literacy and use of IT skills, email and hospital administration systems.
  • Recognition of own level of competence and limitations and able to communicate these to appropriate staff

Analytical & Judgement Skills

Essential criteria
  • Understand the importance of instructions and written procedures
  • Able to gather simple clinical observations
  • Recognising changes in a patient’s condition, and reporting to the registered nurse

  • Ability to identify own learning needs

Physical Skills

  • Capable of using medical equipment under supervision
  • Able to undertake patient manual handling manoeuvres and non-patient manual handling manoeuvres
